I love my little bungalow garden.
Every morning when I wake up, rain or shine, I sit outside on my patio with a cup of coffee or tea and make sure my plants are doing ok. For those of you who know me, you know I absolutely love gardening and this little area is more than enough for me to be happy. Just being near the plants can make everything feel okay and calm me down if I'm feeling stressed.
I have no idea what the majority of the plant types are, other than the orchids, but there are a variety of green bushes with red flowers, a multi-coloured pepper plant, long grass looking lily things, two trees, palms, bamboo, sugarcane, and orchids. Since its quite dry and dusty, especially with the construction, I mist them every morning or give them a good watering down once a week if it hasn't rained.
There's a concept called 'forest bathing' that has been around in Japanese culture for a long time (since the 80's, I think.) Basically, being in the presence of plants and trees has been scientifically proven to lower heart rate and blood pressure, reduce stress hormone production, boost the immune system, reduce feelings of depression, and improve overall feelings of wellbeing.
To me, my garden is like my little forest. My place of calm before the day begins and where I often spend the majority of my morning.
